ACDSee Critique

This is what I have been looking for - an application that will display all my photos so I can see them
without clicking on each one individually to find the photo I want or review an album. It is easy to use,
intuitive and I think will simplify and streamline my photo management.

iPhoto user

Couldnt find the price for the MAC version on your website! Like its ease of use and works well when
pointed to a server image data library, interface is pretty average dosnt have the MAC look at all ... has
that typical PC look about it which i feel lets it down. On a posistive note I think it has alot of promise if
further developed.

Specifically the task i needed it to perform was a simple drag and drop feature ... which it has I use
Freehand 10 and I can drag images straight from ACD onto FH page, in addition I wanted to simply
point it to my server for Image access which iPhoto will not do Grrrr but ACD does.

Mac ACDsee poor compared to Windows Versions

I have been a loyal and enthusiastic customer of ACDsee for windows for years.
I recently bought a Mac and the Mac version of ACDsee is very poor when
compared to the Windows version. If my Mac version didnt have the name
ACDsee on it I would be hard pressed to find any similarities to it and the
excellent Windows versions put out regularly over the past 8 years.

ACDSee Mac Version

Not as clean as the one for Windows, but will get the job done.

horrible interface

the windows version of ACDSee is fast, intuitive and integrates well with the OS. The mac version has clearly just been cobbled together with no regard for the fact that many mac users are interface nerds. It's appearance simply bad, and is reminiscent of those rather quaint early days gtk apps in Gnome. Having said that, the program works well, albeit slowly if large numbers of images are being handles. I am using it on an iMac G5 with 2GB RAM, and the speed doesn't even seem to improve once image caching is complete.

ACDSee For Mac?

Doesn't work as well as it does on PC. Shuts down often when moving alot of pics around.

Why does it not offer you a rename or delete option when it comes across duplicate files. The view
comparrison is great but then you should be able to tell it to rename, not just skip or replace.

Also seems a touch slow. (Macbook pro 1,5ghz, 1,5gig ram)

Thumbs down

It doesn't compare well to the Windows version. Other than viewing the file structure of the Mac and viewing what is in the folders and then clicking on the thumbnails to see an expanded version of the thumbnail I can't find that it does much else. I do like to have that ability but I also occasionally need to cut and paste plus delete files which doesn't work in this version. At times it is slow to load thumbnails and the program crashes a lot. Just recently it crashed so many times that I though I was back in Windows. At its current price and limitations I wouldn't buy it. iPhoto can do the job once all the pictures are imported into its library. RAGE Macintosh Explorer in conjunction with Just Looking does a reasonable job.

Let me say this about that.

I started using ACDSee when I got my very first PC several years ago. I continued upgrading it whenever the opportunity presented itself. On a PC it is fabulous!! But on a Mac, for some reason it has regressed back to infant stage. Mind you, iPhoto on my iMac drives me crazy!! With a capital Z! But the ACDSee was really unusable for me, being used to version 8. Please, please, please make ACDSee for mac just like your latest version and the world would be a much better place. I would be delighted to test some beta software if you like, but you'll have to do a pretty big re-write for mac. Now what am I going to do?????
